For anyone still checking in on us...
The Five Mod Four is my band / solo project. In 1998, I did some solo shows as "Sault Ste. Marie."
Then I paired with a drummer, and we made an album and toured a little. After he left, I did more solo
stuff before forming a trio. After that ended, I came up with the name "The Five Mod Four" and wrote some new songs. The Five Mod Four had a few distinct lineups as well, and sometimes it was just me solo when no one else was around. Sometimes it felt like a real band, and sometimes it was just me with a couple friends along for a few shows.
The most recent lineup ended in early '08, with one guy moving across the country, one guy joining another band, and one guy already too busy with another band. A few of our demos are on the myspace page.
You can buy our CDs at NoKarma.com for only $2.99 each. One is a split EP with the Wrens which includes 4 of our songs and 3 of theirs. Then there's a the full-length, Whiskers. There are some good songs on each of them, if you ask me. I wish I'd spent more time on the recordings - heck, I wish I'd recorded all the songs that all the different lineups played - but I'm grateful that at least some of the music's made it out there, and some people have enjoyed it.
The current happenings are that I've gotten married and now have a beautiful baby girl. We're all moving to a new city soon, at which point I might do more Five Mod Four stuff, or I might find a band that needs to add a guy.
Off the top of my head, I think it'd be fun to write some more subdued folky stuff for my wife to sing with me. And I think I'd like to play in a glam band. Not like a makeup-wearing band, just something where the music's bright and gaudy and people dance to it.
So there you go! More updates when & if anything relevant happens. Get in touch (fm4 at fivemodfour dot com) to share baby pictures and/or discuss economic stimulus packages.
